THE HISTORY OF NORTH GALILEE

History of NGCWC

The north Galilee church was organized in the year 1904, under the leadership of the Reverend Crittenden. A small group of believers held their first worship service in a small two-room framed house located in the 2500 block of leffingwell Ave. The following Minister served as pastors of the north Galilee church at the original location. The first pastor Reverend Crittenden The second pastor Reverend Humphrey The third pastor Reverend S.T. TylerThe fourth pastor Reverend Hall The fifth pastor Reverend ChanneyUnder the leadership of Reverend Channey, a brickstone basement structure was built, near the first location at 2514 leffingwell Ave. The intention was to build a church auditorium above the structure and the future. However the basement structure was later provided an adequate but the congregation continued regular worship services and activities for many years at this location.  The following pastors preceded Reverend Channey

The sixth pastor Reverend C.F. Tanner

The seven pastor Reverend Landon N. Cheeks who was a well-known missionary in Africa early in this century, on January 29th 1989. The Post-Dispatch newsletter published a detailed article about him and his missionary work.

The 8th pastor Reverend James E. Butler

The ninth pastor Reverend Leonard B. Kelton

The 10th pastor Reverend Mack Mills

Reverend Mac Mills was also a member of North Galilee Church before he became pastor. In June 1941 he began his pastorate at North Galilee church under his leadership a residential structure was purchased at 2940 Montgomery Street.

The residential structure was later modified and remodeled for church use. The congregation March from the old basement structure to the new location in June 1952. The congregation made great progress and in a short period of time the mortgage was completely paid off. It was done by the aid of the holy Spirit and the grace of God. The congregation grew and prospered. After 29 years of dedicated and faithful service the Reverend Mac Mills departed his life on May 19, 1970.

Time will not permit the listing of the names of all the members who have served this great church with their time finances and prayers. Some of them have passed on and some of them are still yet here praising the Lord. We must never forget their dedication and contributions. we have the blessed assurance that all that they have done is in the record book of the Lord who gives the ultimate reward let us keep them in our prayers.

The following pastors preceded Reverend Mac Mills. The 11th pastor Reverend William Randall. Reverend Randall was officially installed as pastor on Sunday August 29th and 1971. Under his competent and diligent leadership the church grew in membership and activities through the grace of God. The building at 2940 Montgomery was enlarged and was completely remodeled by 1973. The mortgage for construction was paid in full and the mortgage burning ceremony was held June 5th 1983. After 26 years of devoted leadership August 16th 1977 due to failing health Reverend Randall resigned as pastor his resignation was reluctantly accepted. Reverend Randall went home to be with the Lord in the year of 2003.

The 12th pastor Reverend jerrell E. Montgomery

Reverend Montgomery was officially installed as pastor on August the 2nd 1998 under his leadership ministries have been formed to reach the congregation and the community. One Deacon has been crowned under his leadership (Deacon Roby Edwards)

And three deacons have been added, brother Virgil Murphy, brother Joe thacker, and brother Eddie kirksey Jr. Pastor Montgomery introduced our present model the pastor with the vision the church in action the church celebrated their 100th anniversary in June 2004 and a resolution was presented to the church by The Honorable mayor Francis slay. Plans to build a new edifice were adopted by the official board and agreed upon by the congregation. The beginning of construction for the new edifice was expected by the end of 2005 or the beginning of 2006. But God works in mysterious ways his wonders to perform he sent developers to buy out the entire neighborhood including the church. A resolution was adapted by the official board and agreed upon by the congregation to purchase the already constructed Church edifice located at 9864 Jacobi Street. Under the dynamic leadership of Reverend Montgomery and the guidance of the holy Spirit and much prayer fasting and supplication by the pastor and congregation this is now our present location. We are looking forward to great progress and lots of souls being saved. Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Continue to keep us in your prayers and never forget to give God the glory. Give God the praise.

Amen Amen Amen
